Tantrum Tamers
Sometimes all the hustle and bustle (and extra sugar!) of the holiday season can leave us and our kids feeling all kinds of grumpy. Here are a few ideas for taming those tantrums - adult and kid alike! -Ashley Cribb
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT OILS
This is one of the biggest ways that oils have impacted our parenting! Whenever one of our kids is working through big emotions (he got hurt physically or emotionally, he's overtired, his emotions are running really high), we sit with him, apply one of these three oils over the chest and along the spine, and breathe deeply together. I've found that each of my kids responds really well to one of these, and I keep a roller by their bed with their blend so they know where to go to grab it!
Peace & Calming: contains Blue Tansy which is specifically supportive of calming the Central Nervous System
White Angelica: a wonderful blend for big emotions and one that I love personally!
Surrender: a powerful blend that we love to apply to the spine while we sit in and work through the emotions.
Take your oil of choice, apply it and breathe deeply. Breathe straight from the bottle! Don't rush through or stuff the emotions, but allow yourself (or your kids) time and space to feel through it. Keep breathing and talk through whatever you need to!
PRIORITIZING SLEEP
It can be hard to make sure we're getting enough sleep, but this time of year it is so crucial! We keep a routine to help our kids wind down
Diffuse: Cedarwood + Thieves is our go-to and I also love Peace & Calming, Valor or KidPower + Frankincense + Tangerine, Lavender + Roman Chamomile. Play around with it until you find the blend that is best for you!
Apply: Tranquil roll-on, Peace & Calming (I avoid using this for sleep since it is our tantrum tamer oil), KidScents SleepyIze Roll-on
Supplement: KidScents Unwind (I love it for myself too!) or Sleep Essence for older kids and adults.
*No matter what you do, creating a routine and using the same oil or blend consistently will make a big difference! *
